Piano five-finger setup

Find C position

Beginner piano technique starts with a relaxed five-finger hand shape in C position. Place the right-hand thumb on middle C, then let fingers 2-3-4-5 rest naturally on D-E-F-G.

The goal is not speed. The goal is stable finger numbers, curved fingertips, and confidence finding the first five white keys under one hand.

Play the five-finger pattern

  • Place finger 1 on middle C and keep fingers 2-5 resting on the neighboring white keys.
  • Play up to G and back down without letting the knuckles collapse.
  • Keep a steady pulse and aim for the same tone from every finger.
