Middle C reading
Read around middle C
Middle C is the anchor point that connects the keyboard to the staff. When you can spot middle C quickly, the neighboring notes D-E-F-G become much easier to place and read.
This first reading step is intentionally narrow: stay close to the center of the keyboard so the eye and hand can agree on location before the range expands.
Read a five-note pattern
- Name each note before you play it so the staff and keyboard stay linked.
- Track the pattern from middle C up to G without lifting the hand out of position.
- Repeat until your eyes can find the next note without guessing.
